Mona Lisa
The Joconde (also known as the Mona Lisa) is one of the most famous masterpieces of the world. It is estimated that this work of art was started in 1503 by Leonardo da Vinci. It features the portrait of a Lisa Gherardini, who was the wife of Francesco del Giocondo, a Florentine fabric merchant. Lisa Gherardni was also known as Gioconda, which was the feminization of her husband's last name. The legend says that da Vinci took the artwork with him to France to finish it when it joined the collection of Francis I when da Vinci died.
