PERFECT book for pregnancy/childbirth/motherhood!

This was a great book and MUCH needed. I was curious as to how feng shui could tie into motherhood and childbirth, but as I was reading the chapters, it made sense to me. It's incredible to realize how energy blockages in your home can affect your mind and own personal energy, which in turn can affect your pregnancy and preparation of childbirth! I had no idea. Incorporating feng shui I think can be super beneficial in your pregnancy, during childbirth, and even in preparation for getting pregnant! Gosh, if only I had known this stuff before!! I also really enjoy the good-humored, personality that Bailey brings out in this book. It makes the book a fun read, and not a chore. She shares information with you in such a well-informed, but relaxed way that makes it to where you don't feel overwhelmed, like most other pregnancy books I have read tend to make me feel. She is realistic, while also being light-hearted and encouraging. She reminds us that even though there are different stages of birth that happen, that we all (women) can experience these stages so differently, at our own pace, in our own way. Because each birth experience is unique to us and our baby! So lose the stereotypical expectations of birth, and relax into it, and ride the wave of your own childbirth (and pregnancy) experience! Reading this book is more like being in the presence of your happy, sunny, intelligent sister. Not like being spoken to from a boring doctor or an overbearing mother. It is a very relaxing experience, which I find is key when reading a book (especially while pregnant). I also like that she goes into the 4th trimester (yes it does exist, and my GOD I wish more people spoke about this). Each chapter also starts out with a perfect, self-guided meditation or breathing technique. So be sure to find a quiet spot (if you can) and relax and enjoy the chapter you're about to read. So great! The only thing I dislike about this book is that it was published just LAST year, WELL after my first pregnancy...haha oh how I wish I had had this book back in 2014 when I needed it so bad. But I am grateful to have it for this pregnancy. It has helped tremendously and look forward to keeping it around for the warm hug of assurance that it gives me. I highly recommend it to any woman who is pregnant, trying to get pregnant, struggling with the 4th trimester, or as a gift to any of the above mentioned people. Bailey explains feng shui in a very easy to understand way and doesn't overwhelm you with anything. So I think that is an added bonus for sure. Love, Love, Love!!!

Tons of Humor and Wisdom

I wasn't entirely sure about this book. I'm not really into Feng Shui or Eastern mysticism. I honestly had the expectation that this book would be about decluttering your house and living in minimalism with children. But what I found is that this book is more about decluttering your mind and less about what is under your bed. (Though it does touch on that a bit, too.) Bailey is hilarious. She is a Mommy friend you would want to have. Yet even in her honesty about the awkward and uncomfortable aspects of pregnancy and birth and motherhood, she doesn't let that be a source of fear. It isn't a warning about changing bodies and losing yourself to another. She still holds that this is a life changing event in a positive way. While saying, "Pregnancy is the epitome of change..." she still holds that this change can be good, making you a better version of you. It is a much needed shift in the way we talk about pregnancy and motherhood. Yes, there will be hemorrhoids. But there will also be creativity and love and strength you didn't know you had getting stronger through the experience. Feng Shui Mommy is a little bit of hypnobirthing, with free downloadable relaxation tracks at the end of each chapter, mixed with Birthing from Within, though without all the interesting art projects. Most of the book is about decluttering yourself, your mind, your soul. There is also great information of pregnancy nutrition, exercise, making a birth plan, breathing, breastfeeding, and postpartum care. Lots of different techniques on letting go of fear and allowing the change of pregnancy, of motherhood, to come and to accept it instead of fight it.
