Zanetti is killing it!

Holy heck! Rebecca Zanetti is killing it (literally) with this series! Laurel is one of the most unique heroines I've ever read and she captivated me just as much this time around as she did in the first book. Her abilities are otherworldly and her personality is one that intrigues me. I love characters portrayed as she is. While I'm all about the hero, I have to confess that Huck doesn't really win it with me. He seems a bit lackluster and less fiery than the heroes I'm accustomed to reading by this author. Of course, Ms. Zanetti has built a high bar for herself with previous heroes that have become some of my top favorites ever. This storyline is one that refused to let me skim it. I was in a place where I needed to be able to read and move on and this book was not it. It forced me to pay attention to the details, to the clues, and to the characters. I love when a romantic suspense demands my attention in this way. It's a sure sign that the writing is pure excellence. This can be read as a standalone but I encourage you to read the first book. Also, beware…while this story concludes, it also leaves us with a honking hook for the next book.
