Fantastic, reasonably-priced Victor Compact Stereo

This Victor compact CD/FM/Blue Toth stereo system was purchased a a gift to a close friends/couple whom I know who live here in Mesa, Arizona. I brought the compact stereo system to their home after being able to demo it at my home for a week before visiting them yesterday afternoon. I helped them set it up and then found that even with a simple longer wire FM antenna, the FM reception for two of our local stations K-Bach (24/7 classical music station) and K-Jazz (24-hour talk radio and %26 news station) was excellent. I also brought some CD's with me and played some of them on the Receiver's CD player. These sounded really good. We set up the mini-bookshelf speakers facing on the long side of their dining room toward it and the kitchen of the home. The sounds was amazingly good. I would recommend this Victor compact home stereo to anyone who wants to have access to the local FM stations and also play from their collection of CD's or from Blue-tooth music options. I didn't set-up for Blue-tooth but I'm sure with the good Instrucitons Manual, they'll be able to do this.

SURPRISINGLY NICE SOUND

I wanted a small stereo which I can easily move room to room. This Victor VDTS-4450 is a retro 'mini' style stereo which fits the bill. Sound quality is quite nice. There is enough bass to provide warmth, reaching down well into the second lowest bass octave. Voice and instrumentation is clear and clean, with a fairly big sound. The highs are the biggest surprise. Not strident. No sibilance. Very easy and pleasant to listen to for extended periods. Quality seems pretty good. Receiver is very light, but that is to be expected. The power supply is external and provides about 45 watts. The knobs feel good. Not cheap or flimsy. The Bass/Treble and Volume controls are digital. 0-30 for Volume and /- 8 for tone controls. The CD tray sounds sturdy and stable and the CD is extremely quiet. There is no humming of the disc motor, even when listening at low volumes. The VU meters react properly and accurately. The display is a bit lacking. It does not provide info such as remainder of CD track. But both the VU meters and the display can been seen from across the room. The blue backlight is an eloquent touch. Not overly flashy or in-your-face. The speakers are very nice at this price point. The cabinet is made of wood product and feels solid. The woofer is a genuine 4-inch long excursion type with a large magnet (approx 10 oz). The tweeter is listed as a 2-inch, but it is more accurately a 5/8-inch polycarbonate type, which can be found in many commercial speaker systems. The midrange is surprisingly nice. It is an actual 2-inch mid-driver and not just a glorified tweeter. It features a foam roll suspension, a sealed back and offers considerable cone movement, suggesting it will really reproduce some of the mid-frequencies. This speaker features a rear-port and is tuned to about 53 Hz, which is quite good for this size/type speaker. A lot of thought went into this speaker's design. The woofer is 4-ohms, to extract the most power. The midrange is 16-ohms, which attenuates its output to better match the woofer. The tweeter is 8-ohms, also attenuating and smoothing its output. All in all, this speaker system offers a very flat natural sonic character. Very nice! Here are some specs I measured. Not lab accurate, but to give buyers some idea. Amp Output: 10 watts/ch, 4-ohms from 35 Hz to 18 Khz, 0.3 % THD. Max clean output about 14.5 watts, 1 Khz, 4-ohms, at 1% THD. Amp freq-resp 20 Hz to 20 Khz /- 3 dB. S/N about 90 dB. Bass/Treble range is about /- 4 dB, in 0.5 dB steps. Volume knob is detented 👍. Very reminiscent of 80's style components. CD freq-resp 100 Hz to 10 Khz very flat. Some roll-off beyond. CD player THD 0.03%. Speakers are rated 100 Hz to 20 Khz, but they actually can be heard down to 40 Hz. This is not a LOUD IN-your face stereo. For someone who enjoys natural smooth music
