They could be softer but they are surprisingly hard. That being said, the are comfortable. Fits a wide and narrow range I'm keeping this ones and got another pair to match with my daughter. To be fair I'm not a crocs person so I'm not familiar with hard sandals, and I think I'll adapt quick to this cuties. Perfect colors and design
