Developed for the drivers of all-wheel drive crossover and sport utility vehicles, the Latitude Alpin is Michelin's Light Truck/SUV Performance Winter tire that combines stability on dry roads with hydroplaning resistance on wet roads and traction in slush, snow and ice. The Latitude Alpin features a Helio Compound (a sunflower oil-enriched blend) that is molded into a directional tread design. The tread design marries a continuous center rib with independent intermediate and shoulder blocks. With bi-directional self-locking sipes that allow greater sipe density, the tire is able to bite into snow and ice for reliable braking and traction in cold weather conditions. To increase handling at faster speeds, the Michelin Stabiligrip technology features variable geometry sipes (wavy at the tire's surface and straight at their base. Michelin Comfort Control Technology reduces vibration and road noise by mixing computer-optimized design and precision manufacturing methods. Twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wound polyamide cord to support the tread make up the tire?s internal structure, while a polyester cord casing enhances ride comfort.
