When these sheets arrived, my wife machine washed them in warm water, not cold, and tumble dried them. Although we have a standard ' eastern' king-sized mattress and these sheets are specified to be ' California King' the bottom sheet from this set fit our mattress perfectly and suffered no apparent shrinkage. If not immediately removed from the dryer at the end of the cycle these sheets will wrinkle, but the wrinkles smooth out nicely when the deep-pocketed fitted sheet is stretched onto the mattress. Modal is a type of rayon fabric made from fibers of the beech tree.Although we traditionally buy and use high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, which cost less, both my wife and I found these sheets to be smooth and comfortable, but not slick or clammy. During the warmer months some sheets that we've tried tend to make us feel warmer. These sheets seem to be more neutral neither making us feel too warm or chilly, thereby making them suitable for all seasons, in my opinion.Since what feels good to our skin tends to be highly subjective, I would be reluctant to suggest that sheets made from Modal would be the best choice for everyone. But we found them to be quite comfortable and worthy of consideration especially for someone looking for an alternative to natural cotton or cotton/polyester blends.
