It doesn't tear because that is not what is designed to do. It is designed to be cut because it is a great adhesive tape that I have used for many years on glass window panes,painted,plastic, and tile surfaces. The surface needs to be clean,dirt, oil or any other type of contaminants free for it to adhere properly. Once it is on it is there for years to come. Only gently pulling and sometimes a razor blade to remove it. I will warn you if it is wallpaper or painted that will probably come off with the tape . I learned that from the years of using it! If you use it on anything that might peel or tear DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! It is designed for body work not hanging picture frames or nic nacs.
