A story with a cause

Amalie Jahn is an author who uses her gift of writing to not only entertain readers with a well-told story but to also open up readers' eyes to hardships in the world. First, The Clay Lion weaved the reader through the very real process of grief from losing a loved one while also educating the reader on a rare disease that is poorly understood in the medical community (and could use funding for research). Now, Among the Shrouded again makes us fall in love with the characters while taking us on a journey into a dark criminal underworld that is likely happening in our very own hometowns. The stories are well-crafted, engaging and emotionally stirring. I read Among the Shrouded in a single evening because I just couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened to Mia, Thomas and Kate before I went to bed. The story evokes a different emotion with every turn of the page, including rage at the atrocities still happening in our world. And this is what makes Amalie Jahn a wonderful and unique author - she creates works that make us care and, based on the last page of the book, she does so in hopes that her story will have some small impact that might possibly cascade into change. We are each a Mia, a Thomas or a Kate and perhaps our own gifts can have a larger effect and maybe this story will be the spark. Amalie Jahn is certainly using her own gift for a greater good :)
