Looks good, but lacking quality

On my third one of these in five years. Looks good and we are sort of locked into it because it matches the other Kovacs lights in our kitchen. But the first unit began to fail after two years and I kept it going for three more years with continuous delicate adjustments to ensure the lamps always made electrical contact; then the sockets actually dried out and crumbled and the lamp was structurally no good any more. This problem was exacerbated by the fact the the locking nuts for the sockets never actually made decent thread contact with the sockets' threads (and this has been true on all three units). So this spring, after about five years of finagling, we ordered a replacement for the first one. It was DOA (dead on arrival), in that only two of the sockets had an electrical connection. Being a fairly competent troubleshooter, and not wanting to return the unit, I determined that the dead socket's problem was a poor connection (crimp connectors) between the transformer and the socket (so power was coming out of the transformer but not making it to the socket). So this unit is going back and I'm awaiting a third, hopefully with decent electrical connections and I will treat the sockets with kid gloves and hope they last five years, maybe.
