Pretty but smelly

The online description said the product was cotton and washable. When I received the placemats, there was absolutely no label on them as to content, care instructions, or country of origin. They are very pretty, but they stunk to high heavens of mildew or mold. This probably explains why they were on clearance. I washed them twice by hand and they still look fine. The smell has been reduced but still lingers. Maybe I can get it out with more washings. I intended to give these as a gift, but will definitely not be doing that.
