Great watch

All clocks and watches use IIII for 4. Imagine a watch face with roman numerals, and look at the numerals opposite to each other - all of them are in perfect balance, except for the 'heavy' VIII and the 'light' IV; optical balance is re-established by printing an also 'heavy' IIII. Therefore the main reason why this is done is for symmetry reasons. If one were to divide the watch face vertically, exactly 14 Roman characters would appear on each side of the dial (left & right). If "IV" were used, it would throw off the perfect symmetry of the watch dial.

Great Watch!

I bought this watch a few months ago and love it! I had a hard time finding it in stores so I decided to buy it online. I found out that fossil does their roman numerals slightly different on this watch, the 4 is llll not lV. The sales person I spoke to said it was because Louis the 14th wanted to be different so he did his 4 for 14 with llll instead of lV. The sales people were more than helpful explaining the watch even though they didn't have this exact one. I love how it goes with everything and I can see all the moving pieces!! Not to mention an 11 year warranty, who can go wrong there?

Beautiful and classy watch.

This watch is fantastic. I love the dial and slighty blue colored hands. As a mechanical watch, I think it looks fantastic and masculine with the visible "skeleton" appearance of the gears inside. Goes well with any suit, and easily stands out as the best watch in the room.
