Fails at a simple task

All I need is to be able to switch a keyboard between my MacBook and Windows desktop now that I'm working from home. Sometimes it doesn't switch, then it started introducing random keyboard entries on the Windows computer. So it's back to a pair of USB extension cables with the connectors taped to the side of my desk and manually plugging the keyboard from one to the other. Sigh...
