Stabilized the space
I have one cat who "digs" at the fountain (around, and sometimes dislodged the top) before he would drink, and somehow since I began using the mat his digging behavior doesn't disrupt the fountain - he hasn't dislodged the top even once, so I think the mat offers a tactile resistance he wasn't getting otherwise. My other cat loves that now her food dish is right next to the water. Before it would move around as she ate and she would have to reposition herself repeatedly, but this mat prevents the movement that bothered her. She eats her meal much more calmly, which means I have a happier cat.
