BRIO Little Forest Train Set

Objectively speaking, the quality of this set is excellent. Having other wooden train systems in the house manufactured by IKEA and Toys r' Us (RIP), the BRIO set is clearly superior, even at a glance you can identify the BRIO system when mixed in with the other tracks. The track systems are fully compatible with all of our original sets [TRU and IKEA] and also compatible with the Thomas the Tank series of wooden train engines, cars, etc. [Not Minis, Trackmasters was untested] The detail on the cars are simple but have nice touches. For instance the cargo log cart has a sturdy elastic band that holds the logs in place but they can also be removed! Subjectively: This set is a great started for a young child's [2-4] 1st step into wooden train sets as it is simple and promotes some fun imaginative play. I love the simplified semi-abstract aesthetic, I think this allows for a greater "imagination canvas" making for some great play scenarios. I will say, if your child is in the 5 age range it may be a bit overly simple on its own however, using this paired expansion set opens it up for a great amount of play. If I was scoring on this experience alone I would give it a 4 star but I think objective and whole scope ratings are a better reflection of product. This is a cute little starter set that includes a very basic small oval track, a 2 pc. train, and 2 trees. The train has 2 pieces - the engine has a magnet on the back only, so it will have to be the front of any train if you use train pieces from other sets with it (unlike some of the engines in other non-classic Brio train sets that have magnets on both sides). Also, note that the little load of "logs" are separate pieces. A small piece of elastic holds 3 "logs" to the red wooden tray, which is also removable from the train car. This causes my little boy some frustration because if he knocks over the train, the logs fall off the car
