Domino Effect (Paperback)

Bunn's books operate at a heart pounding, events racing by kind of speed. Yet moments are singled out, clarity, understanding, and reason are displayed. The story takes you on a wild ride, on the premise of what if? You are asked to temporarily suspend belief, yet everything is just this side of plausible. I personally loved the setting of Charlotte, NC. Reading about familiar places, well known landmarks and buildings helped me build a sense of place, the kind of home and personalities well known in the South. One thing I love about Bunn's stories is how a problem is presented, and piece by piece deconstructed, then rebuilt to find a solution. Even complex issues are redefined in such a way as to become easily understandable. As with most of his books, there is a thin romantic thread throughout the story. It's used primarily as a vehicle to show off the characters, without all the "mushy" moments in typical fiction romance books. The author manages to capture several types of personalities, and blend them into a network of friends and family. The result is a cast of characters with bonds that will hold them together through thick and thin. Overall, I found this book to be very satisfying. The book wrapped up with a good conclusion, yet the possibility of more if a sequel were ever written. Current events are addressed and expounded upon, and the setting is written well enough to be more than just a backdrop. I give this book five out of five stars.
