Gagnon (Chippewa) was the academic vice president and faculty member at Oglala Lakota College for almost seventeen years and continues to consult with two Sioux and two Chippewa tribal colleges. He is currently a research associate in history at Loyola University and a visiting professor of integrated studies at the University of North Dakota.
