- Jack Brabham wins 1960 championship, in last year of 2.5 liter engine size, driving a Cooper-Climax
- Engine displacement change from 2.5 liters to 1.5 liters for 1961
- Phil Hill becomes the first American to win the championship, driving for Ferrari in 1961
- Graham wins championship for BRM in 1962
- Dan Gurney wins the French Grand Prix for Porsche. The only win for Porsche as a constructor
- The introduction of the revolutionary Lotus 25 which Jim Clark drove to the championship in 1963
- John Surtees wins championship in 1964, becoming the first driver to win both the World Motorcycle and Formula 1 titles
- Jim Clark wins 7 or 10 races, on his way to the 1965 championship, driving a Lotus 33-Climax
- Engine displacement change from 1.5 liters to 3 liters for 1966
- Jack Brabham wins the 1966 championship, driving a Brabham-Repco, to became the first driver to win a world championship in a car bearing his own name.
- Denny Hulme wins the 1967 championship driving a Brabham-Repco
- Dan Gurney wins the 1967 Spa race driving an Eagle-Westlake. A car of his own design and construction
- Graham Hill wins the 1968 championship driving a Lotus 49B with the new Cosworth DFV V8 engine
- Jackie Stewart dominates the 1969 season, wining 6 races, driving a Matra-Ford
