Irish Drama in Poland: Staging and Reception, 1900–1979 represents the first attempt to broadly assess Irish drama’s impact on both Poland’s theatrical world and its cultural and literary heritage from the early to the late-middle part of the twentieth century. Including analysis of Yeats, Synge, O’Casey and Behan, as well as Wilde, Shaw and Beckett – and encompassing four distinct eras of Polish history – this engaging study explores the translation, production and reception of Irish plays in Poland, as well as the actual events and circumstances that led to certain plays being brought to the attention of Polish audiences.
