Overall, an enjoyable build, culminating in a very realistic model of the AH-64 Apache. Features rotating main and tail rotors, several opening panels with mechanical detail, including the engine pods. The cockpit seats two figures in tandem like the real helicopter, and features two opening hatches to allow access. All of the model's markings are printed; no stickers, which facilitates the flow of the build. As a 40+ yr LEGO enthusiast, I find the array of new and specialized parts, like plates with studs top and bottom, to be highly interesting and useful- I wouldn't mind if LEGO 'borrowed' a few of these part designs. The model is not without its flaws: the tail wheel hub is not recessed and does not allow the axle pin to engage and free spin; the main wheels are held on by small axle pins as well, and tend to fall off rather easily; the white rockets free float within the wing launchers, and will fall out easily if the model is tipped forward. Ultimately, playability is sacrificed for realism, in my opinion, but I bought it for the enjoyment of both the build and for display, and it looks lovely. There is also a tent included with the set, made of cloth, and attached to a frame which must be assembled from a number of small parts. It goes together well, is stable, and provides a nice shelter for the pilot, gunner, and extra figure included in the set. There is also a buildable pallet with four ammo boxes included. I wish they had included a small table with communication equipment, as the tent is equipped with an antenna, but they didn't. As for instructions, part applications for each step are clearly marked, and the build flows well. I had a few moments of confusion determining which colored parts were to be used at times, but I was able to figure them out. The figures are built from a number of both body parts and accessories, and feature a really good range of pose-abilty for their size. Final thoughts: Aside from the few negatives mentioned above, design and build are solid, resulting in an excellent buildable representation of the Apache. This set is intended for more experienced builders, as some techniques and part use may be difficult for younger or unexperienced builders.
