Westmark Jar Opener, One Size, Steel

The Westmark "Vacuumex" works on both jars with regular lids and the thicker jar lids, that are used with many jams and jellies. One end has a hooked piece that that goes under the edge of the jar lid. To open the jar slight pressure is applied to the opposite end and acting as a lever it lifts the jars edge up and breaks the vacuum seal. The jar lid can then be removed with little effort. On the other end, it has a regular metal cap opener (as for metal caps on long neck beers) so using the large hole it can be placed on a hook and hung up. This item was purchased in February 2023 for $11.25. Another option for breaking the seal is placing a spoon tip under the lip of the lid. I was a little worried about chipping the edges of the glass jar. When I was looking to purchase jar openers that break the vacuum seal, I also noted another product that also works with levers. It is the "Brix Original Jar Key". It is made of plastic and one size opens regular lids. There is an Brix opener for lids that are up to 3/4 " thick. I suspect if you purchased only the thicker Jar Key lid opener , with a 1/4" shim, it could be used on the thinner lids too. I wanted a single easy to use opener so I purchased the Westmark one. It works well and opens lids, both regular and thicker lids.
