This is the best thermometer I have ever used!!! First, let's talk about the settings. You can set the setting for either beef, lamb, pork, fish, turkey or chicken and you can choose how well done you want the meat to be. You have the recommended temp as well as the current temp being read by the thermometer. You can also use either cooking by temp or the cook time and an alarm will go off when the setting has been met! The thermometer does have a door to protect the screen and the box is magnetic so you can attach it to the oven or grill. Yes, you can use this in the oven! There is a cord that attaches the machine to the metal thermometer tip. When using this, you MUST insert the metal tip completely because it can damage the sensor if it meets temps over 572 degrees. The wire does stay between the oven or grill and the box, which stays OUTSIDE. Don't worry, the wire is extremely heavy duty and can handle being closed in as well as the high temps. I used this thermometer to cook a chuck roast to the appropriate temps of well done and just left it to cook. Once the alarm went off, I took out the roast, which was cooked perfectly! This would be a fantastic gift to anyone who loves to grill or cook and doesn't want to have to keep cutting meat the ensure that it is completely cooked!!!!
