As a Black girl, McKinley was upset when one of her white classmates didn't have a valid reason for why she couldn't play the lead for Cinderella. Confused as to what he didn't see in her, McKinley came home upset from her first day of school and quickly ran off to her room. Wanting to know what was wrong, McKinley's parents patiently waited until she was ready to talk at dinner. After expressing her feelings and sharing her wish for others to see all the things she's good at, McKinley's family was proud of her for not letting her skin color question the things she can and deserves to do.
