Striper Special Most Versatile Casting Reel Ever

I bought this reel for the boat and surf...I use it on my Carnage 2 boat road and my Carnage 2 Surf rod. Deep cranking power to bring those striped bass and bluefish under control here in the Northeast. Drag is easily adjustable on the fly...! I would recommend this reel if you want something that will last a lifetime and you can pass down to your grandchildren. With a little maintenance and oil you will not be disappointed. I use 30 pound test Spiderwire Stealth with a 50 lb. shock leader on the surf and a 30 lb. leader on the boat. Casting will take time to get your thumb educated but well worth the effort. So far no complaints with the reel as it does what it was designed to do.

6500 Striper Special

I purchased two of these reels for cat fishing and they are great. Turned on four of the six brakes and they cast like a dream. I have several ABU reels and they are all work horses that never play out. I really like the larger crank handle on this reel too. Some people have complaints about the casting performance of this type of reel but I've been throwing these since I was a kid and know how, so for me these are the best you can get.

Great reel!!!!

I recently bought this reel as I am still fairly new back to fishing and do mostly striper and sturgeon fishing. I have another conventional reel but keep getting the dreaded "birds nest" so I was looking for one with a brake system and found the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Striper Special. The first time taking it out I was able to cast with no issues after setting the drag and brake system and landed a 42" sturgeon. The reel held up like a champ. I am very pleased with this new reel and it is now my go to every time reel. Thank you Abu Garcia for making quality products. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
