Good filters - people need to stop second guessing

I've always wanted a decent filter that allowed for superior air flow after pleated filters pushed the old fiberglass filters out of the market. These excellent, inexpensive, free-flowing filters are perfect. Several reviews here are complaining about the airflow arrow being backwards. Just follow the installation instructions, don't second guess the engineers, and you'll be fine. I've been using these for years in my own home (two air handlers, four filters) and two rental units (one air handler each). Never had a problem. They work well, they're light but durable. And they definitely improve heating/cooling efficiency over the restrictive filters most people use now. Worth noting that studies done on HVAC air filtration show that no matter what kind of filter you use, you don't get most of the dust in your house anyway because it's resting on surfaces and embedded in carpets and pillows. So no matter how high a MERV rating you use, you end up breathing all the dust as you move around the house stirring it up before it ever gets near your filter. Merv equivelant.

Been searching high and low for a polyester filter that flows as free as possible. Too many people get hung up on what the filter will filter out and forget that a furnace has to breath too. Otherwise the blower motor works too hard and is more apt to burn out as well as the a/c a-coil being more prone to freeze up. Do some internet research. My furnace has a static pressure issue ( more furnaces do than people realize) and wanted something better than the spun fiberglass filters that dont really filter- you can pour salt right thru them. This filter fits the bill... The merv 5 rating (3m equivelant of 100 in their rating system) is the only merv 5 that the big box stores sell in my area. Just wish they would go back to the standard 'boxed' framework that seals so much better. Give them a try and see if you dont get better airflow thru your discharge vents and save on your bill sinc ethe blower dosent have to work so hard.

Basic Pleated Filtrete design change question

The Air Flow direction has been changed (redesigned maybe) with the a stronger stretched wires first and the pleated material second. In addition, the paper each is reversed. I installed them (I have two AC systems) and could see they worked just fine. My question is was this redesigned to improve performance or was this a mistake in the manufacturing process? Can you explain this new design? [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
