Darn Good Little Flame!

When I first got this, I was skeptical on if it could work with jewelry because the instructions included how to use it on creme brûlée (something I don't make). So I decided to take it down to my shop to try it out. I tried to make a headpin with a piece of sterling 18 gauge wire and it balled up perfectly. So I wondered if it would work on something more difficult. I took a piece of my scrap .925 silver and used medium solder on it (which flows at about 1300 degrees) and it worked! I'm super happy with its performance with using it on jewelry making. It will be my go-to when I want something quick and don't want to crank up my acetylene torch.

You hold a torch to my heart!

Dremel's Versa Flame 2200 is one of the easiest torches I have ever had the pleasure to use. Upon opening the good looking tin box I was immediately amazed by the contents, all laid out nice and neat. With easy to use instructions. The very first thing I used it for was a spot soldering job on my Grandson's slot car. Not sure what else I will make, but the cold has affected some of our plumbing and I am sure the torch will get a lot of use as I repair it. (Update: Works great for plumbing jobs as well, again the size is the key to it's greatness) I will say to those afraid to use a regular torch. This torch is what you need. It is simple easy to use and effective, if you can refill a butane cigarette lighter, you can use this torch. It refills exactly like a lighter and the flame is easy to control. The torch has many safety features which keep it from being turned on accidentally, especially important in homes with children. Its small size means you can get into areas a larger propane torch simply just cannot do. It sits in the hand comfortably, the flame is adjustable with little effort. The included attachments can cover just about any torch job you can think of, and the solder was included. and it stores in it's own box. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Awesome multi-tool for any tool box/home workshop

I have used the Versaflame for a little over 3 weeks now. First for anyone reading this review, please be aware that this does not ship with any fuel and will require that you purchase butane that is readily available at any hardware store. I already had some butane available from a separate tool purchase. Upon opening the packaging I could not help but notice how well of a presentation Dremel created with the case that this was sent in. Attached are photos of the case that the tool came in along with the inside of the case showing just how everything has its only special spot and does not just roll around with in the case. I quickly took the Versaflame out of the packaging and filled it and attempted to use it without reading the instructions. Please do not do what I did. I ran into some trouble trying to ignite the tool and had to read the very short and concise instructions on how to properly use the Versaflame. Turns out I did not have the air flow valve open. Totally my fault. I tinker on my motorcycle here and there, and had a little electrical project wiring a new tail light and turn signals into the bike. What a hassle it would be to have to solder these items into the bike worrying about a standard corded soldering tool. The butane soldering tip heats up almost immediately and does very well heating wires up to allow solder to flow and make the proper connections. Working in the tight confines of a motorcycle I noticed the kind of confidence this tool gives you because it feels like an extension of your hand due to how ergonomic it is. After soldering the different wires I allowed the soldering tip to cool down and connected the hot air attachment to heat up shrink tubing for the wires I had just soldered. I must also note that it comes with this handy stand that allow you to sit it down and not have to worry about it rolling away somewhere. This tool allowed me to make very clean and professional looking connections. I always like looking at the cooking channel and decided to attempt to make Creme Brulee. After making my base and allowing them to cool for some hours it was time to add the sugar topping. Upon starting the process of making the burnt sugar topping I really like how much control I had over how fast or slow I was able to get the sugar to burn. By about the third cup of creme brulee I was rotating the cup and making the crispy sugar toppings perfectly. This is not something I would have normally attempted but since I had the multitool sitting in my garage, I thought it may be a good time to test this tool out for something else other than what I intended to use it for. Overall I am very impressed with the Versaflame and recommend it for any "weekend warrior" like myself that find themselves doing various projects around home and even work. The quality of this tool is top notch and I will be getting another one to have at my office. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
