These are excellent books but beware. All of the books in these series revolve around the often cruel nature of living in the wild. If you have sensitive children it might be best to read with them. There are very graphic descriptive scenes of death..cats hunting and kilking prey, cats attacked by a fox, the killing of cats by other cats. Personally I think it may be a bit much for the 7 to about 11 year olds. Nature itself can be cruel but these books often go beyond the cruelty of nature in the interactions of the cats themselves, so for the impressionable young it may give them a skewed view. This isn't reality in those interactions but may be construed as such if there is no adult input. I do believe that death and gory descriptions is just far too prevalent for something aimed at young readers. I give a cautionary recommendation. Probably excellent for the 12 age group, but an adult presence for those below that age. Encourage them to further read about feral cat colonies and how nature interacts with other living creatures. These books are a great starting point for that, but help them understand ferals do not always act with such cruelty towards others.
