started out good but didn't last 2 months

this item started out working good. Then it just quit working after only one month and a half. I paid 24.79 for this item so I expected it to last at least a year. what a disappointment, I don't know what to buy I bought 2 different brands at the same time and they both quit working at the same time. how could that be planned??
