I bought this RC because HPI has a great reputation. That said, this "Maverick" subsidiary of HPI will ultimately be a stain on the HPI brand. I bought the Maverick Quantum XT Flux (blue 150300).
I didn't just buy this model without any doing research either. The statistics for the price seemed a no-brainer; the reviews on YouTube were encouraging (in hindsight I can see they were too encouraging). I'm beginning to feel like they were just sending them out for free in exchange for a positive review. I watched videos of people launching this thing in the air, landing in the most compromising of ways, with minimal damage. I thought, "I don't drive my RC's anything like that so this MUST be a durable product".
I have never taken my RC's to a skatepark, never to a BMX track, I've never launched like anything I saw in these reviews, and yet, I've spent more time replacing parts than I have driving. I have spent more money on replacement parts than I have on the initial purchase; I've had this truck for 3 MONTHS!!!
This truck is incredibly loud, it's clumsy, the servos are slow, the motor has no punch. They advertise this thing as 70 MPH, and I understand that's under very specific circumstances with very specific gearing and hardware; this thing MIGHT do 35 MPH out of the box on 3S LiPo. It's incredibly unresponsive, it's ridiculously heavy, and thus likely why it breaks so easily. There are so few upgrades for this truck. They advertise this thing as "the best bang for your buck", absolute nonsense.
This product is garbage and I'm ashamed to have spent $360 on it ($800 if you count replacement parts). The Arrma Big Rock is TWENTY DOLLARS CHEAPER; my friend bought one the same time I bought this disappointment. He has yet to see any downtime, he has thrown his truck through the ringer; meanwhile I'm afraid to take the Maverick off a street curb... I get to watch him attempt back flips and fly through the air 15 feet off the ground, just smash into the ground and the Arrma just keeps going. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS....
