Metal is weird

The metal is strange and turns a weird color when cleaned with a cloth or liquid jewelry cleaner. I have never had a piece of jewelry do this. Is this some weird China metal? I have several pair of earrings like this but none are made of such metal. Otherwise, they are very pretty. I purchased them because I needed some small earrings that were not real diamonds that had the post in the CENTER of the back earring because my piercings are stretched-out. They were great for about a week--for the price I guess that is not bad! :)
