Works Great!

I make my own soy milk to avoid store bought that comes in plastic-lined containers and creates a lot of waste. But finding a way to get rid of the pulp has been difficult. Hand squeezing through a nut milk bag is physically difficult and takes so long and squirts all over. I was so close to giving up and going back to store bought, but now that I got this fruit press my life is easier.Over the inner pot I drape a cloth nut milk bag. Then I place another nut milk bag on top of that--also inside the inner pot. Then I pour the cooked soy milk into the bag, tie it and fold it over while leaving the first bag still draped over the inner pot. Then I use the press to press down on the folded over bag. I do about 1/2 turn every 30 seconds. Can't go too fast or the milk will squirt all over, the integrity of the bag will be spoiled... If some pulp escapes from the inner-most bag, no worries because the outer bag catches it. I can use the press to get so much more milk out of the pulp than I could by hand. I get an extra cup of milk per batch at least, that's 25% more.I use a machine to make the soy milk, but I've also made it without one. I take 1/2 cup dried soy beans, soak over night. Food process it with only a little water so it doesn't splash all over. But after it's blended use the rest of the 1 liter (or 1 quart) of water. Boil then simmer for about 20 minutes until all the mixture settles to the bottom. Then use the fruit press as above. Then I heat it in a pan with 2 Tablespoons sugar and 1/8 teaspoon salt, whisking until just comes to a boil. Pour into a sterilized bottle. ( I save oil oil bottles, rinse well. Pour boiling water in a bottle and let set for 5 minutes to sterilize it, empty it out and fill it with soymilk. Otherwise it spoils quickly if you don't sterilize the bottle and caps.)
