Product details
For several years I had a serious inner struggle: should I write such a book as this, when I had not yet become one of the world's best known billionaires? In the age of personal aircrafts and estates in midst of the ocean, what do I have to show that the principle which God has taught me actually work? This inner turmoil gave birth to doubts which made it impossible to write the book before now. The more I delayed the writing, the more it became more difficult to become wealthy. One day, God opened my eye to certain truths. For one, I come from a very humble background. My father was a very strict clergy man, a disciplinarian to the core, totally sold out to God, and to the Anglican Church (that is, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion) But, after 46 years of serving the church in the most dedicated way, he retired very poor. The shocking treatment he received from the powers that be in the church was not a way to becoming rich or even comfortable. I cannot forget in a hurry, how scandalized we were as a family, as the most significant of all the "gifts" we got from the church when my father retired was a sleeping "foam". My mother, loyal and committed to the church and to my dad, soon had to carry the financial burden of nursing my diabetic father, from the infrequent salaries she received as a primary school teacher. My elder brother, continued to support as much as he could: the few of us who were working weighed in, every once in a while, with whatever we could- but that wasn't much. A family of eleven-nine boys and two girls -was always going to be a very pleasant challenge-but it was a challenge still. In all ramifications, in every sense of the word, I did not come from a financially comfortable background. Thus, I knew what it meant to live at the ground level. As part of my efforts to break away from this ugly cycle of poverty, I had resigned my teaching appointment, with the State Education Commission, Nsukka Zone, Enugu state, Nigeria, and thereafter travelled 750 kilometers to Nigeria's former capital, Lagos state, to join a private company. From an initial salary of four hundred and twenty five naira, as Master II Teacher, when I got employed in 1988, I had grown to four thousand, seven hundred and fifty naira, when I resigned as a teacher, nine years later. In relocating from Nsukka to Lagos, I was placed on an initial salary of six thousand seven hundred and fifty naira only. After several years of discontinued service at the company, I had got married, and I began to experience first-hand, the crippling challenges of taking care of a family. At the beginning of one particular year, the Group chairman promoted some of us that he considered deserving. It was like a breath of fresh air. But by February, the very next month, the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, further removed government subsidy on petroleum products. This precipitated inflation that spiraled out of control. In a matter of days, inflation wiped out the actual financial gains of the salary increase. I tried to cope with this untoward situation but it was so difficult. One Sunday evening in March, I summoned enough courage to visit the Group Chairman of the company at home. After initial greetings, he demanded to know my mission. .............................................
