Shun Classic 6 1/2-Inch Utility Knife. DM0701. Utility Knives. Shun Classic knives combine traditional Japanese style with the superb performance of Damascus steel and the elegance of ebony PakkaWood handles. Damascus steel blades are known for being tough and resistant to shattering, as well as their capability of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge. Pakkawood is constructed of carefully selected foreign and domestic hardwood veneers which undergo a process that creates multiple fused layers of treated hardwoods, making a weather, bacteria and moisture resistant handle that is dimensionally stable. This knife features full-tang construction for added strength and balance. The 6 1/2-inch blade of this utility knife reduces blade-to-food sticking, making prep time quicker, and the balance point between the handle and blade enhances precision. The unique combination of a VG-10 stainless steel cutting core and 32 layers of Damascus steel creates an incredibly sharp, strong blade with unmatched edge retention. Love it
I originally bought a Santoku Classic a few years ago. Then I added to it a Nakiri, Ultimate Utility, and Paring with honing steel. I then got married and my wife said the knives were too big for her except the paring. I secretly got her this as a surprise, but I was surprised too at how great of a knife it is. We are plant based so we have no need for anything meat wise and I don't like ""Western"" style knives because I'm so used to the Shun locomotive cut. I love all the knives, but this one and the ultimate utility surprised me the most.

Indespensible, best knife.
I have had this knife for over ten years now, more than 5 of which I was cooking professionally. It has been all that time my favorite item in the kitchen. good for most anything that doesn't require a heavy knife for cleaving. It has been with me for all of my culinary learning and I rely on having it in my kitchen.

My favorite, go-to knife
I'm the cook in my house. I cook every day and have since I was a young man. Over the years I've owned many quality knives but none have survived the test of time and performance like my Shun 6" utility. The handle shows signs of extensive wear, the blade has some nicks and the tip is rounded but this knife is my first choice for most tasks. I just sent it back today to be sharpened after many years of wear and tear. Shun stands by it's products as this great tool has done for me. Now I have to find a stand in until it returns. One other thing. Having a knife as sharp and precise as the Classic Shun utility makes it also the safest knife you'll ever have in your hand. It doesn't skip or jump or slide. It's the safest knife I've ever had.
