Saturn Returns was formed in January 2012 by two veterans of the rock and jam band music scenes: Doug Grean, lead guitarist / composer / producer with the likes of Scott Weiland, Sheryl Crow and Velvet Revolver, and Doug Haxall, a founding member of the New York-based psychedelic band Dreamspeak, which turned many heads back in the 1980's during the nascent jam band revival that gave birth to bands such as Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors. The two Dougs have known and jammed with each other since those days - nearly 28 years - giving rise to the band name 'Saturn Returns', based on the astrological event that occurs when Saturn returns to the exact point in the sky it was on the day of your birth. Rounding out the 'Saturn Returns' theme, are the band's two youngest members, 29 and 30 respectively (and enjoying their first Saturn Return), Tom Newbold on drums and Andrew Rodriguez on keyboard. The band features an eclectic mix of original and cover songs based on their mutual love of the Grateful Dead, old school blues, and other improvisational and jazz-based rock. Grean, Haxall and Newbold share the songwriting and singing chores, while Rodriguez fills out the sound and delivers the soul with his vintage keyboard sounds, evocative of the best of the 60's and 70's.
