Outstanding intro to balsa ARFs

Just had my maiden this last weekend and wow. Using an electric NTM 5050 580kv with an APC 15x8. AUW 8lbs with 7.5lbs of thrust. Great flier, super floaty when you want it to be, quite sporty when you open it up. Flaps slow it way down for landing but it really makes the big field I fly at feel small. Really glad I got this plane! Hope to get more Hangar 9 planes soon.

First balsa ARF--great next step

I started last summer with an E-Flite Apprentice, then an E-Flite Splendor, which was a nice introduction to power, but I never really liked it. While I flew the Splendor I built the Meridian as my first balsa ARF. After reading about the stock electric setup in RCGroups (underpowered and too light to balance without a lot of additional weight), I went with an E-Flite Power 60 and Glacier 5300 6S lipos. Used Spektrum AR 636 receiver, and the Spektrum servos listed in the description. I also used slightly stiffer 3-inch Dubro wheels. I flew it for the first time last week and it went really well. Easy to fly and land, good power. Exceeded my expectations. My plane with charged electrons is 9+ pounds, but with the Power 60, it doesn't fly like a heavy plane. The kit was good; the covering was tight as a drum and everything went together well. Good manual. Two flaws were the small 2mm self-tapping screws you use for the servo covers and control horns. Some were deformed, all were really poor quality. I had to replace quite a few. The other issue was the nose gear. It was slightly larger diameter than the steering arm. HH sent me another, but it was also too small. You'll have to drill it out unless the part has been updated, but easy enough to do.

Love This Plane !

Real nice plane, very docile no bad behaviors, I have mine with a Saito 91 up front and only had to add a couple of 7grams leads to get the correct CG. I definitely enjoy it every time I take it to the flying field. I was concerned about the small attachment to fix the wings using just a 3mm bolt to the fuselage but it holds it pretty well, very good looking plane.
