Just as good as 1982

I remember the Frog as one of Tamiya's first hobbyist RC car kits from 1982. The Frog was released so successfully back then that two years later Tamiya tried their hand at it again with the release of the Hornet and Grasshopper. While the Hornet is faster and Grasshopper easier to assemble, the Frog is genius when it comes to all-around terrain getting in and out of trouble quickly and with good power. If you are undecided between the Frog, Grasshopper, or Hornet? Spend the few extra bucks on the Frog...you won't regret it.

High nostalgia value

My review really sums up this buggy well. I purchased the Frog for nostalgia's sake to be a backyard basher. In this, the Frog excels. It is by no means capable on an R/C track. The biggest problem is that the rear dog bone axles will pop out after landing a hard jump or as a result of a rollover. Luckily the rubber boot will likely keep the dog bone from being lost but the chances are quite high that the dog bone will rip a hole in the boot. I *strongly* suggest purchasing a ball bearing kit like Tamiya Frog Sealed Bearing Kit. If you want a more modern buggy and prefer to stick with Tamiya, consider the Tamiya 58374 1/10 Sand-Viper Kit. This is probably the best all-around buggy you can get. It's suitable as a basher and with some strategic hop-ups, it can become a capable racer. The Sand Viper is based on Tamiya's DT-02 chassis. As such, the list of available hop-ups is actually pretty amazing so the car can grow with you. So unless you really have your heart set on buying a Frog (like I did) your money is definitely better spent on a different car.
