Inexpensive is better on new system.
They may look and feel cheap, but for new high efficiency heating and A/C systems, it is recommended to use ones like this. They filter the air and do not reduce air flow like more expensive filters do. I purchased then under recommendation of the installer. I also change them once every 3 months.

Simple and inexpensive. I change it out every month. It seems to me the thicker ones make your HVAC system work harder to get the air through. I’ve used this type for 30 plus years and I’ve had zero troubles with my ac and furnace.
