super cute

I have been a long time (distant) admirer of Pioneer Woman products. I like her show and her recipes but haven't actually bought any of her products. I have ZERO experience with enamel on steel so I was a little apprehensive about these. However, I felt the same way about cast iron until I became familiar with it. Now cast iron is my FAVORITE way to cook and I hardly use much else besides that and my crock pot! I took a photo of these with a lime in it to show these are quite generous in size! Small enough to be a proper portion for someone but large enough to actually cook in. I made French onion soup. I followed the instructions regarding rubbing the oil first. Then I cooked the cut onions with a little butter on the stove-top. Once the soup base had properly simmered; I put cheese on top and popped these under the broiler to melt the cheese just right. It was the best cooking experience making this recipe ever! Perfect! The cheese came off the enamel without any problems (no baked on residue); so I didn't need to use the baking soda to remove anything. I'm excited to use these on dishes where the heat preference varies between my husband and I- he likes it HOT and I do NOT! And, of course, these are SUPER cute!

Perfect size for single servings

At first glance here is the technical data for these pots....4 inches tall with lid in place, 8 inches wide including handles, diameter of just the pot: 5 1/3 inches. This info could help you if you're wondering if these pots would fit inside a toaster oven or countertop convection oven. I do have a countertop convection oven and while the pot fits inside just fine, it will not fit with the lid on, unless I lower the rack to it's lowest position. Inside of the pot holds approximately 2 1/2 cups of liquid allowing headspace for boiling or simmering without spilling over. My first impressions: this product is really made well and the pretty flower designs on top and sides of the pot do not feel or appear to be decals that could easily scratch off during normal use or washing. Although light in weight I feel that is normal given the size of the pots. There are two pots and two matching lids that come in this set. Now, I have honestly purchased other "Pioneer Woman" products in the past few years so I am well acquainted with this brand of products. I have learned from experience that this brand is something that you can be assure of quality and durability, even though I feel that the price points are a tiny bit in the moderate range. In cookware, the old adage still rings true: You get what you pay for! Especially so with cookware that is really put through it's "paces" by being used daily for years and years. And I feel this is something that this brand will easily stand up to! Now the colors aren't exactly what I'd prefer but they do mimic old country home and farm style. This product is made from steel and is enameled throughout even on the inside of the rolled steel handles and the lid handles where no one would even see! That's the sign of true quality, as far as I'm concerned. I do know that if it were more cheaply made, and not every single surface was enameled, any area that wasn't covered would eventually rust. I know that will not be the case with this set of pots. I also see that there are solid bands of metal covering the top rims of the pots as well as around the edge of the lids, so I wouldn't try to put them into a typical microwave as it may cause arching. Also microwave use is not listed in the booklets from the manufacturer. This product is perfect for a single serving of soups, dips, homemade pot pies, deep dish apple pies or what ever you can think of making. It easily goes from stove top (electric burners, induction, gas, halogen, or vitroceramic), and in the oven (safe to 500 degrees F). It should be washed by hand, as they do not recommend putting this in the dishwasher. However, with it being ceramic coated, it will need less oil and will be less chance of food sticking during normal cooking, and should wash up like a dream. To make sure you don't void the warranty, DO NOT ALLOW LIQUIDS TO BOIL DRY. It damages the cookware. IF you get something baked on the ceramic and is not easily removed during normal washing...just simmer 1 cup of water with 2 tablespoons of baking soda and that should help to loosen and remove anything that is remaining so it can be washed clean. Before first use, as with all cookware, wash and dry it. With this cookware, they recommend you use a very light coating of cooking oil on the inside of the pot. Also remember, because this is ceramic coated steel, you CAN use your metal utensils inside this pot :) All in all I totally love these pots. As an elder woman, I live alone and don't cook in large quantities as I did when I had my whole family at home. But I do enjoy still making homemade soups and stews and savory pot pies and such. This is the absolute perfect size for a hearty soup! Even if you are a college student or young person who is trying to impress a date, what's better than homemade French Onion soup and some nice crusty bread??? Cheap to make and impressive for sure :) Pioneer Woman, this is yet another in a long line of great products!

Great Dutch Oven

How incredibly cute and functional are these things? Since phasing out the use of our microwave, we have been looking for a few small pots that I could use to quickly cook in and reheat food on a daily basis. I wanted something that was cute. And most importantly something lightweight and could be used to quickly heat up small, individualized portions of food for lunches and/or dinner. I found just what I needed in these dutch ovens. They have they cutest pattern. Lots of flowers and colors with a little country charm. They remind me of the pots my grandmother use to cook in when I was a kid. They are small, but just the right capacity to cook or reheat enough for one or two servings. They heat very quickly. These dutch ovens have been made with lightweight steel and covered in enamel. This makes them strong and they also heat and cool quickly. While this is a great feature, it can also pose a problem. The steel/enamel allows food to heat quickly. But it can also cause food to burn if you are not careful. I'd just keep temperatures low and heat things gently just until you get use to these pots. Follow other cleaning, cooking, and care instructions and these dutch ovens will serve you very well.
