I purchased this plant stand to go in front of a window, so I could overwinter small plates that usually stay on my front porch. It is working perfectly. For assembly, I sorted all the pieces into separate piles according to length; and simply follow the directions on the pamphlet for construction. The pieces do have to be forced into place in the connectors using a mallet... which the kit does come with. however, it is a tiny mallet though and luckily I had a regular size mallet in my toolbox. The small mallet that it comes with will work if that is all you have, or you could use a sponge and hammer to dull the blow if you need a larger tool than what it comes with. You don't want to use a hammer directly on to the connectors, because they are plastic, as even though they are very durable they will break if hit too hard with a hammer. Taking your time with assembly is important... making sure all of the pieces are all the way into the connectors will assure that your shelf is not crooked once it's complete. If connected correctly, this is a sturdy shelf that should last quite some time with proper care. If being used for plants, place something under each of them to catch extra water from watering.
