Angels & Outlaws, Vol. 1 marks the initial release of the Bellamy Brothers' two-disc retrospective celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first number one hit, "Let Your Love Flow," in 1976. To commemorate the occasion, brothers Howard and David Bellamy assembled a wide array of guest artists, including Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton, George Jones, and Tanya Tucker, to add a new twist to several of their most recognizable hits. Souped-up versions of "Sugar Daddy," "Old Hippie," "Redneck Girl," and "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)" work well with slightly different arrangements and guest vocalists. With the release of Angels & Outlaws, Vol. 1, the Bellamy Brothers deliver the goods instead of simply providing re-recorded tracks, which they've done in the past with lackluster results, or plainly reissuing the same hits yet again, like they did on the 2001 release The 25 Year Collection.
