This book feels like it was written by a straight white man to help straight white women find a good man and develop a healthy relationship, etc. The author, it turns out, is a pop figure among young women. Of course, there is some common ground and overlaps between other groups but in general, the tone felt limited. The book didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I'm familiar with all the red flags in a bad relationship of any kind and so forth. I think the issue is what happens when one enters a relationship and as they say "love is blind."....Then how does one stay focused and present enough to really see those red flags? I don't feel that that question was deeply or robustly addressed. However, I must confess that I did skim over a few parts of the book because it just wasn't resonating with me. So it's possible I missed some real jems of wisdom. Also, I'm currently single and I'm really content flying solo, so I think that biased me in my reading...? Which begs the question? Why did I read the book in the first place? Well, It came highly recommended by a friend so there you have it.
