Description: Watermelon seed oil is extracted by pressing from the seeds of the Citrullus Lanatus (watermelon). It is particularly common in West Africa, where it is also called Ootanga oil or Kalahari oil. Watermelons probably originated almost 5,000 years ago in the Kalahari Desert of Africa where botanists have found its wild ancestors still growing.
Color: Pale yellow liquid.
Aromatic Description: It has very little scent characteristic of most carrier oil.
Common Uses: Watermelon oil has natural moisturizing and emollient properties in addition to being a natural cleanser. The oil that is extracted from the seeds of the watermelon yields an oil naturally high in linoleic acid, the fatty acid known for its alleged skincare benefits. This is an ever-growing popular ingredient widely used throughout cosmetic and personal-care formulations in everyday products such as skin serums, lotions, face masks, cleansers, and astringents.
Consistency: It has typical the characteristics of most carrier oils.
Absorption: Its light and absorbs quickly into the skin, without the oily feel.
Shelf Life: Users can expect a shelf life of up to 2 years with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended.
