This kit would be great if some of the items were better quality. I gave it three stars because I'm an avid camper and the backpack is not as good as I hoped or as good as ones that I use for camping. I'm going to replace it with a 40L Military Molle bag. Also, the compass is absolute crap. The one that came in my kit is off by about 20 degrees. It definitly doesn't point anywhere close to North. The mess kit is a can with a lid and handle and a portable stove so small that you'll be lucky to heat a half cup of water. Also, they include a collapsible water bottle which, in the event that potable water is unavailable, would be completely useless. A personal filtration straw would be a necessity in most real world emergencies. An axe or machete would also be useful. The shovel/pick could be better quality as well. The "first aid kit" is an ansolute joke. Overall, though, not a bad kit for the price considering that I've been pricing BOBs for a while and it's difficult to find any that are comprehensive and relatively inexpensive and if you want to build your own it can run you into the thousands of dollars to build a decent kit. I'd definitely recommend it as a beginning BOB. Obviously I am going to (or have already replaced) replace certain items. I'm also adding other items to the kit such as an axe, 2-way walkies, Comprehensive first aid kit, Climbing carabiners, D rings, fishing kit, etc.
