I have worked in both the landscape and aquatic industries. I know neither of them mean a "gallon" when they say a "gallon." I knew these were going to be tiny when I ordered them, so I am very pleased. If you are looking for something the size of a one-gallon water jug, then size up to a two gallon. They are well made and worth the price and I'm thrilled I could find them in tan. They will be going to a hot location and I was needing a color more cooling. Happy find!
