A Nutritious Addition to Every Home Garden
Basil is a warm-weather herb grown for its aromatic leaves and is often used as a garnish. Not only does basil add delicious flavor to dishes, it is also a good source of Vitamins A, C, and K. With Back to the Roots Organic Genovese Basil, you can plant and harvest basil all on your own. For the best quality leaves, use a potting mix tailored for vegetables and herbs, provide warm temperatures between 70–85°F, and provide 6 or more hours of direct sunlight as well as consistent moisture. Given that basil prefers warm growing temperatures, it's recommended to plant basil seeds outdoors when the ground is warm, but these organic seeds can also be started indoors. Tend to your basil leaves, pruning or cutting the stems so that the plants can start to branch, resulting in more leaves for harvest. If flowers grow, cut them off. Begin light harvesting after plants become established around 6-8 inches tall. Harvest in the early morning when leaves are at their juiciest. Use your homegrown basil in your favorite recipes, including basil pesto, tomato basil pasta, lemon basil chicken, and more.
