DC Comics Justice League
DC Comics writer, Gardner Fox, based the Justice League off of the Justice Society of America. The group first appeared in the March 1960 DC Comics issue 28, The Brave and the Bold. The initial team members included Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. While other superheroes have come and gone since then, the first members of the Justice League are iconic and beloved. In November of 1960, the new superhero team got their own comic book titled "Justice League of America."
Superman
Superman was born on the planet Krypton and was named Kal El by his parents, Lara and Jor-El. Before his planet was destroyed, Superman's parents sent him away on a spaceship that ultimately landed in Smallville, Kansas. He was found in a cornfield by his soon-to-be adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Kents changed Kal-El's name to Clark Kent and raised him to be kind, courageous and justice-seeking. Clark would realize his true origins on his journey to become Superman in the fortress of solitude where the disembodied remnants of his Kyrptonian father, Jor-El, would teach him everything he needed to know to use his powers and be a good man.
The figure of Superman personifies the ideal that those with great power should wield their power with virtue, protect the innocent, and seek out justice against those who have done wrong. Clark Kent is a mild-mannered reporter at the Daily Planet by day, and fights crime and rescues the innocent, like his love interest Lois Lane, as Superman. His incredible abilities are derived from Krypton's much harsher environment and the effects of Earth's yellow sun. These abilities include ice breath, heat vision, flight, super strength, invulnerability, super speed, and super hearing. His only vulnerability is Kryptonite, the radioactive remnants of his home planet.- Coin
