TCL 115” Class QM8 (115QM891G) 4K UHD HDR QD Mini-LED Smart TV with Google TV (NEW 2024)

This TV will satisfy 90% of all tv buyers out there. It's bright, has great black levels, and the built in sound is pretty good. The laws of diminishing returns starts here. Anyone more looking for something more is going to grab an OLED or Sony Bravia TV but will pay twice the price.

Originally ordered via Best Buy but rescheduled my delivery the day before it was scheduled to be delivered, so I looked around to see what other retailers might have it in stock. Walmart showed delivery in two days and came through, with a better price than Best Buy. The television itself is great quality. It is MiniLED, so it gets bright and the local dimming makes shows and movies pop. It's good for multiple uses. I use mine connected to an Apple TV for streaming and I also have a PC connected for general use and gaming. It's low latency and works well for gaming. I have played everything from RPG to FPS and they all run extremely well. I would recommend adjusting the picture settings to the recommendations from RTINGS. They do a really great job with in-depth reviews on build and picture quality and I have been using their recommendations for years. On picture quality, my primary point of reference is an LG C2 OLED. I think the picture quality is more or less equal. The OLED has *zero* blooming (the light bleed around bright objects on dark background) and MiniLED can occasionally have a little on logos and things like that but it's definitely not distracting and the difference is brightness more than makes up for that to me. The sound is good for a TV but really almost any sound bar will sound better. I think the best use for TV speakers is for pairing with a soundbar from the same maker to add effect and layers to the soundbar. Overall it's a great tv and I would buy another. I saw some of the TVs TCL released at CES2026 and I'm still quite happy with my choice, especially the value and I would recommend this tv throughout the year until maybe Black Friday when the new (2026) TVs come down to reasonable prices. Oh, disable all the tracking items, wifi and bluetooth and use an Apple TV or similar.
