Together We Move Forward: Utilizing Positive Psychology and Prevention Science in the Advancement of Youth Development

Positive Psychology formulates the foundation of prevention science: the application of scientific methods to the promotion of develop-mental assets and minimization of risk behaviors. The contemporary expansion of positive psychology into diverse settings is promising as this opens new doors for research and intervention. Schools, if judged only by the passed decade as marred by violent tragedies, appear most appropriate for new and innovative intercessions. Martial arts, specifically the traditions of Judo, offer a timeless solution to a timely issue. This work, using a mixed methods approach, empirically demonstrates how martial arts practice positively impacts youth when conducted in the school environment.
