This timer has an infinite number of uses. In addition to kitchen meal preparation I also use it for speed typing; crafting; gaming or even for a quick nap. I was torn between a 3 or 4 star rating. It wasn't packaged well and something rattles when you shake it. The bell goes off a minute or two before the timing is completed and then it continues to count down until the end. No second ring. It's okay if you're timing something like a stew or roast turkey, but for more sensitive things like a cake or cookies I wouldn't trust it. Pay a little more for a trustier timer. My rating may lower depending upon how it holds up in the long run.
