Pond Boss PW3750 GPH Waterfall Pump

The design of this pump and the small holes in the pump's screen make is constantly prone to clogging. The mesh bag that they tell to put the pump in has even smaller holes. Any small amount of string algae will make the pump and the mesh bag completely clog. Because of that, this pump is not very suitable for a traditional garden pond. It may be better suited to use in a pondless waterfall system. The screen over the pump is also very difficult to remove and almost impossible to reinstall correctly. The first pump I purchased completely stopped after just a few days and had to be returned. Upon receiving the pump, the manufacturer (Oase living water) concluded that the pump had a faulty motor and send out a replacement 3 weeks later. The replacement pump stopped after just 20 minutes because it was so clogged, (even though the pump is located in the bottom of my skimmer and the water runs thru a skimmer net, filter pad, and the mesh bag that comes with it before it gets to the pump itself). After all these problems, neither the manufacturer (Oase living water) or the warehouse where walmart purchases the item from (Bic Warehouse) would let me return the item because it was past 30 days since the original purchase. Of course it took longer than that to complete the exchange process to replace the first faulty pump I was sent. I don't normally write reviews (and I apologize for this long one), but I wanted to warn others that this pump is not suitable for your pond.

Defective design

The first Pond Boss waterfall pump I purchased lasted over 3 years before breaking down. What happened was that the impeller shroud (cover) came off the motor housing because the locking tabs were broken. It was out of warranty so like a fool I purchased another one with a larger capacity (3600 GPH). Same thing happened. After about 2-1/2 years of operation the flow started dwindling, and I noticed the impeller cover had slipped off the housing. This time 3 out of the 4 tabs were broken so there was no way of locking the impeller on to the motor housing. On contacting the manufacturer directly (Pond Boss), they refused to honor the warranty (3 years limited warranty) saying that this particular item was not covered. They would not stand behind their product. I would not recommend this particular pump because of this inherent design defect, and the fact that the manufacturer would not honor the warranty. I finally purchased a more robust pump with a one-piece housing assembled with screws, at around the same price.

reply from Supplier Response

Hello. Sorry to hear about your experience. There could be several reasons that causes an impeller housing to break, in order to determine the cause we would need to gather more information. We do suggest using a pump shield to prevent large debris from getting in the pump. This pump is covered with a 3 year limited warranty with a copy of the proof of purchase or we could determine if it's under warranty by using what's called a 'datecode". If the pump is not covered under warranty, you may purchase replacement part through us. In order to better assist you, we recommend calling our Customer Care Team at 1-888-755-6750, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM to 6 PM ET. We hope you give us the opportunity to help.
